Dipti Punjabi answers, at 2012-11-20 16:09:03
If you are looking for a degree program abroad, please check on your course and budget and choose a country wisely. You will then need to fulfill the entrance test requirements, prepare your application documents and apply to the universities well before the deadline.

Dipti Punjabi answers,
Students can use personal funds, sponsor/parents funds, loans from bank/trust, pvt or trust scholarship and so on for funding. International universities also provide scholarships to eligible students.
anantaroy asked, how much money is needed for that?

Dipti Punjabi answers,
The financial requirement depends on your course of study and country. To give you a generic picture - US/Canadian universities can you cost you up to 20 lacs per year for 4 years at the undergraduate level. At the Masters level, the cost can range between 18-25 lacs per year for 2 years depending on your course.

Dipti Punjabi answers,
I suggest that you look at countries in Europe for the MS in Mngmt. You can have a look at the top schools below: http://rankings.ft.com/businessschoolrankings/masters-in-management-2012 Switzerland is one of the highest paying countries in Europe currently.
shreehari asked, hi I want to know abt persuing Ph.D in abroad. How we can get to know about research positions.? wwhat about financing options? wha is the required qualification ?

Dipti Punjabi answers,
PhD is known to be a fully funded program and hence the most competitive for admission. Depending on whichever country you choose, the GRE is highly recommended along with the English proficiency test (TOEFL/IELTS). Work experience in your field of interest is an add on to your profile. Please start your PhD application at least 18 months in advance. You must write to professors at universities that match your research interests and get an approval from them to make your PhD application successful.
Nature asked, I am an industrialist and am looking for short term courses in machine manufacturing, Designing of woodworking machines, Designing and / or manufacturing of cutting tools.

Dipti Punjabi answers,
You will find courses in your area of interest in various universities. However, I suggest that you look at the degree programs as they would hold more value and credit. You can have a look at the programs offered by University of Calgary and University of Windsor in Canada.
rahulsonthalia asked, how to kickstart for IELTS ?

Dipti Punjabi answers,
You can refer to the Cambridge IELTS to understand the 4 sections. Put in 2 weeks of steady practice. Since this ia a paper pencil test, ensure you practice writing and time your essay well.
johhny asked, hi Dipti, what are the job prospects after MBA in UK?

Dipti Punjabi answers,
UK has discontinued the post study work permit since 2011, hence forcing most students to complete their program and return to India or apply for jobs in other European/Asian countries. However, if you graduate from a top ranked UK university, the chances for you to be absorbed by a firm in the UK are bright.
kamlesh asked, i am kamlesh. aged 42 years.. i need a keen to have a MBA degree from abroad. i can spend only a year or so...is there institutions abroad. where cheap education exists.

Dipti Punjabi answers,
You can consider UK/European universities if you are keen on a 1 year program. Even so you should be prepared for a min budget of 15 lacs. Students can cover up their living expenses by working on campus and hence save about 4-5 lakhs from the total amt.

VINCY asked,
I am studying in class XI Commerce stream and I am planning to study abroad after my class XII. Can you please advice which country and university is good for accounts (CA) and what are expenses for full course?

Dipti Punjabi answers,
UK is a good option for your course of study. You can pursue BSC in Accounting. You should be prepared for about 15 lacs per year. It will be a 3 year degree.
prasad asked, Sir, I am 37 years old and just 10th (SSC) passed though I have 16 years of hands on experience of Computer software and hardware troubleshooting. Today I have no one to guide me after my fathers pass away in 1989. Please suggest me a "VERY SOUND ADVICE" about where I can take some professional course in the same field of IT maintenance at affordable cost.

Dipti Punjabi answers,
Prasad, I strongly suggest that you look for diploma or + 2 options in India. You can find the same in your requirement. This is a study abroad chat and I must say that it would be difficult for you to apply at intl universities with your background.
SK asked, Hi, I have done my mba from IIT Delhi and have a 3 year work ex with IBM. My percentages are (80 in MBA, 77 in B.E. 57 in XII, 78 in X) Can I look at Ivy league institutes for mba or will that be out of scope due to my low percentages?

Dipti Punjabi answers,
You have done very well in your BE and MBA and these will coun if you apply for an international degree. However, ivy league admissions are not decided on the basis of academic %, instead your contribution at work (quality and quantity), extracurricular achievement and essays are considered as a whole.
amitava asked, Hi, i hv cmpleted my 12th in 1997 and grads in 2009 from IGNOU. I want to knw abt persuing Master degree in HR/Training & development. Can you please suggest me some universities and budget part also ???

Dipti Punjabi answers,
You can consider the MS in your required field in US, Canada, UK. However, if budget and time is a constraint, UK is the best bet as you can finish your course in 1 year within 15 lakhs.

If you are considering the US then it is mandatory. Many premium Canadian universities also prefer the GRE and TOEFL.
OCHITYA asked, Hi , I am 24 years old software engineer and wanted to pursue MS in financial engineering. Can you suggest good universities in terms in terms of the job course and affordability?

Dipti Punjabi answers,
You will find some great universites in the US offering MS in FE. Please keep in mind these are 2 year programs and the course can cost you about Rs. 20 lacs per year. Please have a look at some courses Cornell University - http://www.orie.cornell.edu/academics/master/cfem/ Nanyang Technological University - http://www.nbs.ntu.edu.sg/Graduate/MSc_Financial_Engineering/Admissions/Pages/Requirements.aspx
sanjay asked, Hi i have cleared my GRE with 416 Marks and TOFEL with 110 marks pls guide me the best university for MS in computer science

Dipti Punjabi answers,
Which pattern of the GRE have you taken? Do you mean 316/340 - new pattern effective Aug 1 2011? If that is so, you can look at some US universities such as University of Texas at Dallas, NYU Poly, Syracuse University and so on.
kamlesh asked, what is cost of MBA for people with experience more than 15 years in UK.does we get achance of employement after studies....and settlement.

Dipti Punjabi answers,
Employment depends on the kind of university you graduate from and if you have the earning capability of 20000 pounds on completion of your degree. I would say UK is not the country for PR. You can rather look at Canada or Australia in that case.
yogesh asked, whats decent score for admissions to top universities in US for MS

Dipti Punjabi answers,
GRE - 325+ TOEFL - 105+
VINCY asked, Dear Mam, you advice me to do Bsc in accounting in the UK. Can you suggest any good university in the UK and whether any entrance test is required. Also, how about the US or Canada and Singapore, I have relatives there...

Dipti Punjabi answers,
Both US and Canada are excellent for their Bachelors degree but the budgets soar as they offer 4 year degrees. Singapore is a good bet - 4 year degree in most cases. In the UK have a look at Oxford Brookes University to get an idea - http://business.brookes.ac.uk/undergraduate/2013/acca/ You will need to take the IELTS test.

Dipti Punjabi answers,
You will need to pursue a Bachelors in Business in the US before you think of MS in Finance which will take you closer to your goal. The US system is flexible, and allows you to study various subject choices in the initial 2 years before you finalize on your major/s in the third year.
