Here are the results of a survey conducted by haircare website Fabriah.com -- and they're rather interesting!

The hairdos you'll see in the following pages are not necessarily 'in' anymore, but they certainly were at one time -- so much so that they've acquired iconic status.

We bring you the top 10 hairstyles popularised by stars in the last 50 years, as per a poll conducted by website Fabriah.com. Take a look.

1. Princess Diana's 'Shy Di'

In first place we have the late Princess Diana's hairstyle from nearly three decades ago. This shaggy, layered do called the 'Shy Di' was famous in the 1980s and topped the poll.

2. Marge Simpson's beehive

The cartoon character's famously tall hair came second only to Princess Diana's Sloane Ranger hairstyle.

"I was surprised to see Marge Simpson rank so highly," the Daily Star quoted Fabriah.com spokesman Francesca Davies as saying.

Rock 'n roll legend Elvis' quiff came third. The signature look was copied all over the world when he became a star in the '50s; in fact, a lock of his hair sold for $15,000 at an auction in 2009.

4. Jennifer Aniston's 'The Rachel'

This layered look, popularised by the A-lister on the sitcom Friends was in fact named 'The Rachel' after her character.

It was 'the' do to sport in the '90s -- all the ladies wanted a mane like Jen's!

5. Margaret Thatcher's bouffant

The UK's former Conservative PM was known as the Iron Lady, but opted for a rather soft, feminine bouffant, which took fifth spot in the poll.

6. Jackie Kennedy's bob

The former First Lady of the US sported a bob back in the '60s that had women going ga-ga. Her trademark, bouncy look became the signature of a powerful, aristocratic woman in those times and was copied by thousands.

Twiggy's short crop

The original supermodel of the '60s, Twiggy had a short, boyish crop that has never entirely lost its popularity -- stars like Anne Hathaway and Rihanna are still sporting it today.

8. Marilyn Monroe's blonde curls

In eighth place we have the blonde bombshell's platinum curls -- peroxide they may have been, but while Marilyn was alive, the trademark do was the very epitome of 'sexy'.

In fact, this photograph is from her aptly-named 1953 blockbuster Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

David Bowie's red mullet

The second man to feature on Fabriah's list, iconic rocker Bowie rocked a bright red mullet in the '70s, and it left quite an impression.

The electric do made it to ninth place.

10. Grace Jones' buzz

And finally, rounding off the top 10 we have the Jamaican-American singer, who's worn an edgy, square-cut buzz for most of her life.

Androgyny is finding a footing in the fashion industry now, but 30 years ago Grace owned the look -- and was not afraid to flaunt it!
