Aggressively priced at Rs 50,000 (ex-Thane), the bike offers a lot to the buyer, in terms of features and mileage and a brand new front disc brake, writes Faisal Ali Khan of MotorBeam.com.

TVS Motor has been doing very well in the scooter segment, with the Scooty range gathering good volumes. The company brought in another scooter, the Wego, offering enthusiasts another option.

The Wego was recently given a front disc brake option. The bike is priced very aggressively and offers a lot to the buyer, in terms of features, price and mileage.

The company claims the Wego returns 62 km/l, which is among the best in the scooter space.

The TVS Wego has a very sharp and attractive design, which is sure to woo buyers. The scooter boasts of carved body panels along with modern bits like beefed up parts and protruding tail light. However the TVS Wego doesn't look as big as some of its key competitors.

The console of the TVS Wego is quite easy to read.

The speedometer takes centre stage while the fuel meter is placed right adjacent to it. The meter looks modern but addition of some digital bits would be very welcome.

The switch gear quality of the Wego is really top notch and the coloured buttons (red for electric start and yellow for horn) is a nice touch.

The TVS Wego offers very comfortable ergonomics. The seat is upright and feels connected yet comfortable for city riding. While the seat is not so wide, it does feel good for long distance rides too.

The pillion will hold on to a nicely designed grab rail made of plastic, not aluminium. The rear view mirrors have come from motorcycles and offer good rear visibility.

Powering the TVS Wego is a 109cc, air-cooled engine which is an aluminium unit. This motor generates a respectable 8 BHP of peak power at 7500 RPM and 8 Nm of peak torque at 5500 RPM.

This engine is very smooth and feel refined as well, offering a good exhaust note throughout the power band.

Power delivery is instant and the single-cylinder powertrain is quick to respond to throttle inputs. Reaching 80 km/hr doesn't take too long and the top speed is around 85 km/hr which is decent for a scooter of this output.

The TVS Wego has telescopic forks at the front and unit swing suspension at the rear. It runs on 90x90, 12-inch tyres. Dynamics are very good and handling is predicatable with quick directional changes even though the TVS tyres are poor in terms of grip.

The body balance tech works well and you simply push the Wego into corners and it follows obediently.

The TVS Wego has excellent ride quality both front and back.

The suspension absorbs bumps with ease and you feel little uncomfort on bad roads. Braking performance is excellent too and the disc brake at the front helps in shedding speeds very quickly.

The light steering enables one to zip through traffic quickly.

The Wego has 150 mm ground clearance which is good enough to clear even big speed-breakers.

The narrow foot board doesn't permit big bags from being kept there but there is a hook on the top to hold longer bags. Headlight offers good throw in the night and the tail lights are LEDs, a first in the segment.

The TVS Wego pleases on several fronts and is a very good scooter for the enthusiast today. While it doesn't have the same level of engine performance as the Suzuki Swish or the Piaggio Vespa, it excels on other fronts like handling, ride, braking and price.

This makes it one of the most VFM yet capable scooter in the market presently.
