Jab We Met: 'His photograph looked ridiculous'

Last updated on: February 12, 2013 12:07 IST

We had invited you, our readers to share your love story this Valentine's Day.

Monika Desai says it was love at first sight when she met Vipin at the Cafe Coffee Day. This is her story.

This is so wonderful to actually write my love story when I could just imagine about it.

I was 26 and my parents were after me to get married. I am a commerce graduate and my parents used to search boys for me like anything.

After a while these boys would to reject me for being less educated -- software engineers wanted software engineer partners, doctors wanted doctors and likewise for lawyers.

I was pissed with the family drama every weekend where people used to come to my place to see me as this was part of a Maharashtrian tradition.

Lately my mother registered my name under a matrimonial website where she got introduced to a good family.

When she talked to them, everything was fine with them.

The boy (Vipin) my husband now, told my parents that he wanted to meet me alone and then decide whether he wanted to take this ahead.

This was like a time bomb moment for my family, but I convinced them.

Even his parents were initially not happy with his decision.
One day we found each other on Facebook and shared our numbers. We decided to meet at a CCD near our place.

The photograph I had seen of him was just ridiculous, and had decided I will say no.

Incidentally, even he had decided to do the same.

When I reached CCD, he was sitting there, wearing a yellow shirt.

I cannot forget the moment. He raised his hand when he saw me, and trust me it was love at first sight for me.

I never believed it though. We talked about many things and he asked if he could drop me home. I could not refuse.

He dropped me home and that day onwards we started chatting, calling each other and told our parents that we liked each other.

I never asked him, where he worked or how much he earned. I realised I could manage with him.

Only recently, I got to know that he owns a software firm and was happy.

A few days later, his parents visited our house and agreed to our relationship.

Wow! That was the happiest day of our lives.

'The day we got married I had to leave their house'

We got engaged in April and I got to know from him that his brother won't attend our marriage.

Even his brother's wife was not happy with the marriage in June and hence, he demanded some more time to think on this.

My parents refused to get me married to him and were not happy about what his brother and wife said.

I was shattered. I had no way out.

I tried to convince him. But he loved his family more.

Somehow, things got managed and we got married.

The day we got married I had to leave their house and live in a rented apartment with him.

My in-laws were also told to leave that house and now they stay happily with us.

We had many financial ups and downs but standing beside him makes me richer than wearing any gold on my body.

He struggled a lot to get everything right and never said a word against me or his family.

Through every problem and bad times, Vipin was with me.

I always supported his decisions without any questions because I love him.

He is so positive in our relationship that nothing in world can make us think wrong about each other.

May be I can't express my love to him always, but dear, here I can write that my love for you will be always always be there.

And I love you for who you are and the way you are.

Nothing in this world can take this feeling away from me. Thank you Vipin for letting me be a part of your wonderful life and yes arranged marriages do turn into love marriages.
