Daddy and Me: 'I am proud to be his son'

June 15, 2013 11:25 IST

Readers share memorable pictures of their dads. Share yours too!

With Father's Day coming up on June 16, we invited readers to send in special 'Daddy and Me' pics. Here's the next set of responses!

We start out with Raj Shekhar who writes:

Father and son always share a special relationship and my story is no different. My dad was a Junior Engineer in the PWD in Koppal District in Karnataka.

Coming from a poor family, he was very simple, loving, affectionate, cheerful amd had a big heart.

Like me, he too lost his father at a very young age. Success didn’t come overnight to him.

He always used to wear white shirts. We played lot of cricket, table tennis together. Like me, he too was a great fan of Steffi Graf.

He had made several sacrifices in his life to see us happy. He built us a house on which we can now happily rely upon.

I remember him coming to Bellary (where we used to stay) around 2am travelling for almost 4-5 hours from his workplace and returning at 7am.

He would come by all way only to see us. He used to take leave whenever I used to fall ill but would work whenever he was ill.

He always had a very positive influence on our life. Fortunately, I spent 15 years of life with him and was his favourite among my elder brother and sister. He worked really hard for us. He thought us to live with discipline, love and dignity.

7/1/1994 is the date that brings sad memories even today. That day I lost my dad. It took me a while to come to terms and keep going in life. Today, I’m walking on his footsteps with all the lessons of life he has thought us. One day, I want to give back all that he has given us by making him feel proud of being my dad.

I am proud to be his son as much as I being an Indian. He still remains the greatest influence in my life. Deep in my heart, he continues to live with us forever.

Daddy and Me: 'I hope I can be like him'

Next up, we have this photograph of Murli Rao’s father. Rao writes: My father has been a pillar of strength for me throughout my life. In my good times, he was there to rejoice in my successes and in my bad times he was always there for advice and support.

He has been selfless all his life... giving all the time but not expecting anything in return.

This is the selfless love that makes us connected to our parents and also makes us better individuals in life.

No amount of money or material comfort can even come close to the warmth and emotions from our parents. I just hope that in his remainder of life, I can repay some of it.

I just hope that I can be like him with my kids. He always wanted to see the world and visit different cultures.

He could never afford to do it when he was working. Now, it is my dream to actually get him to see the world and in that context, the trip to Dubai to our house was indeed the most memorable part of my life.

May god give him peace, good health and longevity! I love you Dad!

Daddy and Me: 'I really miss him'

Vaishali Shrihari Dhevarshetty didn't send a photograph but wrote this note:

My darling daddy passed away on 24th May 2013. I really miss him a lot. I could have celebrated Father's Day on 16th June with him.

He was very sincere, honest and a hard-working person. He worked till the last day of his life (age 70). He set an example in the society and his achievements are always recognised. Well done, Daddy!

Dear God please always keep my daddy happy over there. He has really worked hard on the Earth. Love you, daddy! Miss you, daddy!"
