Understandably, Sankoo is also very popular amongst local picnickers. It also houses the shrine of a Muslim scholar-saint, Sayed Mir Hashim who is said to have been invited from Kashmir to spread religious teachings of the Budhist ruler, Thi-Namgyal of the Suru principality after he converted to Islam in the 16th century.
