Women should scrutinise their potential partners carefully early on in the dating process to avoid ending up in a bad relationship, an expert has said.

Many men may seem perfect after just a few weeks of dating, but upon closer inspection, there can be warning signs that you should avoid a relationship with this person, said online dating and relationship expert Joshua Pompey.

It is important to recognise these warning signs before it's too late, he stated.

Writing on the Huffington Post, Pompey has described fifteen types of guys whom women should avoid getting into long-term relationships.

The first is the set-in-his-ways guy.

Dating someone who refuses to do anything new will lead to a relationship that is both boring and one-sided. Stop thinking that he will eventually change and open up to your hobbies. These men will only become more rigid over time, said Joshua.

Next is the pick-up-after-me guy: These are men who expect you to clean up their dishes, pick up their clothes and take care of them as if they are little children.

Beware of these men because they will likely treat you as if you are their mother for the rest of their lives, he stated.

The third type, according to Joshua, is the always-looking-for-a-deal guy.

They are the ones who constantly look for deals and comment on prices early on in the dating process. These are signs that he will likely be very cheap throughout the duration of the relationship, said Joshua.

Also women should avoid dating the I-need-to-watch-sports-all-the-time guy. Many guys like watching sports but this should never trump the responsibilities of a relationship or take precedence over family obligations.

Women are advised to avoid a man who has a childish obsession with sports, suggests Joshua.

And there are the what's-for-dinner guys who expect a home cooked meal every single night. Don't end up being a maid of such men.

Next is the I-get-increasingly-less-romantic-with-each-date guy.

In the beginning of a dating process, most men do their best to impress their girls, but by the fifth of sixth date, the laziness starts to creep in. These changes in effort can predict how he will be a year or two down the road, said Joshua.

The I-had-sex-and-now-I-don't-have-to-try-anymore guy is the next one to be careful of: Men who back down and start getting lazier after having sex for the first time were probably only after one thing to begin with, Joshua asserted.

The I-will-let-you-pay-for-some-of-my-bills guy: If a guy asks for help while paying bills early on in a relationship, this is a warning sign that you should avoid a relationship with this person.

By paying for him early on, you are setting the tone that it will be this way for your entire future, he warned.

The lack-of-ambition guy: Some men with no ambition whatsoever like to talk up a good game, but Joshua said they are just saying to woo women and are not genuine.

The I'm-in-my-late-twenties-or-older-and-still-live-with-my-mother guy: A man who has been working for a couple of years and still lives with his mother past this age is never going to grow up, said Joshua.

The "sorry, I'm not a big phone person," guy: Beware of men who find responding to your text messages or phone calls annoying. This is a warning sign of future selfish behaviour, according to Joshua.

The over-controlling guy:  This guy makes a check on "his woman" every second of the day and inquires about who she is hanging out with.

The I-don't-know-what-I'm-looking-for guy: He is a confused person. One day, he wants a relationship. The next day, he wants kids. Two months later, he's not sure about either. This type of man may ditch you anytime, Joshua noted.

The let's-just-stay-in guy: Men who are constantly suggesting that they want to just stay in and watch a movie early on in the dating game are likely the lasy type, or only out for sex. This will only get worse over time, Joshua warned.

Lastly women should avoid the I-don't-like-your-friends guy. If your man says he doesn't like your friends and refuses to hang out with them, leave immediately because no man is more important than your friends, he added.
