Google doodles for Douglas Noel Adams' 61st birthday

The search giant celebrates English writer and humorist Douglas Noel Adams' 61st birthday with a doodle.

Today Google is celebrating the 61st birth anniversary of noted writer and humourist Douglas Noel Adams.

The Google doodle on the search giant's home page pays a fitting tribute to one of Adams' most well-known comic science fiction seies The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

The book was also adaptated into a movie in 2005, which posthumously credits him as the producer.

Adams who was born March 11, 1952 in Cambridge, England, is a graduate in English literature.

He started his career in 1978 as a comedian for BBC radio.

Over the years, he wrote a series of books that went on to become bestsellers selling over 15 million copies through his lifetime.

Among his notable works include writing the television series Doctor Who, several stage plays and comics.
 
Besides creating the computer game HHGG in 1984, he was also instrumental in creating Bureaucracy, Labyrinth and Starship Titanic.

Douglas Adams called himself a "radical aethist".

He loved fast cars, cameras and innovative technology.

Adams died of a heart attack on May 11, 2001 in California. He was 49.
