IIT-JEE (Main) results declared

The results of the Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) 2013 were declared today.

Conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, the JEE comprises of JEE Mains and JEE Advanced.

The JEE (Main) score is important to qualify for the JEE (Advanced).

To get your results, students can log on the JEE web site www.jeemain.nic.in.

Today's results will help over 150,000 candidates qualify for the JEE Advanced which will be held on June 2, 2013.

All those who qualify in the JEE Main today should register at http://jeeadvonline.iitd.ac.in/ or http://jeeadv.iitd.ac.in/ to appear for JEE Advanced.

The last date to apply for JEE Advanced is May 13.

Overall performance in the JEE 2013 determines admission to the various undergraduate programmes at the
National Institutes of Technology (NIT), the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

According to the new pattern that was implemented last year, Class12 board marks and JEE scores will carry 40 and 60 per cent weightage for engineering admissions respectively.

At the same time, starting this year, an engineering aspirant will not be allowed to reserve a seat in the IIT and NIT simultaneously.

According to a decision jointly taken by representatives from the IITs and NITs along with Human Resource Development officials, admission data will be shared between the two group of institutions forcing students to choose their admission in either of the institutions but not both.

This move aims to improve the number of available seats and also enable the lower ranked aspirants to fill in the vacant seats.

This year more than 10 lakh students appeared for the JEE (Main).

While there is a lot of confusion as to whether the JEE rank list will be displayed or not, Deepak Agarwal, founder of AIETS informs us that the All India Rank and State Ranks of JEE Main will be announced by the CBSE only after the declaration of Class 12 results of the different boards.

"Since there is weightage to both board exam scores and JEE Main marks, the merit lists are possible only after CBSE receives the Class 12 marks of the candidates," said Agarwal in an e-mail communication. Agarwal is an IIT-BHU alumnus whose organisation provides online learning solutions for various entrance examinations like the JEE.
