Four from Kashmir valley and six from Jammu made the cut by cracking the prestigious civil services examination
As many as ten candidates from Jammu & Kashmir have passed the prestigious civil services examination 2014, results of which were announced Thursday.
One of the candidates, Abid Sadiq Bhat from Kashmir has secured 27th rank.
While four candidates are from Kashmir valley, six are from Jammu region, most of them from the border district of Poonch.
However, no female candidate from Jammu & Kashmir has made it to the list compared to last year when two female candidates, one from the valley and one from Jammu, had figured in the list.
While Abhishek Mahajan from Jammu has secured 366th rank, Vikrant Bhushan of Katra in Reasi district has got 954th rank.
The state which would occasionally figure in the list of successful candidates, has been doing relatively well ever since Dr Shah Faesal topped the 2009 civil services exam apparently becoming a source of inspiration to other candidates from the state.
Dr Faesal was not only feted in the state on a large scale for his success but was also received by the then prime minister, Dr Manmohan Singh.
Abid Sadiq Bhat had cracked the examination last year too but reappeared this year to improve his rank.
"I appeared again to improve my rank and finally I did it." Bhat is currently undergoing training in Hyderabad in the Indian Revenue Service. He had earlier cleared the Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) examination also.
Another candidate from Kashmir, Bashir Ahmad Bhat secured 189th rank.
A college lecturer, Shakeel Maqbool Yatoo, who secured 633rd rank said he cracked the examination after studying for just four months with political science as the main subject. "I was concentrating on national and international issues and read newspapers," Yatoo said.
