Sangeeta's Bangalore house raided

In an extension of 'Operation Gentleman,' income tax officials on Thursday morning descended on the Bangalore home of Sangeeta Bijlani, wife of former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin.

The raiding parties also hit the business and residential premises of businessman Sunil Jain, owner of the Dominion Club.

Jain is suspected to have business links with Azhar and Sangeeta Bijlani.

A team of 35 IT officials comprised the raiding party.

While the officials were not prepared to talk to the media, one member of the raiding party said the raids were expected to continue late into the night.

Commissioner (income tax, Bangalore) K K Sharma told rediff.com that simultaneous raids were also taking place in Chennai, which had not been hit during the first phase of 'Operation Gentleman.' He said altogether eight premises were raided, including two in Chennai.

Sharma, however, refused to disclose the identities of those who were being raided in Chennai. "All the raids today are connected," was all he would say on the subject.

It is learnt that the IT officials swooped on Jain the moment they knew he arrived in the city on Thursday morning, from Bombay. They tracked down the taxi which drove him from the airport and asked the driver to take them to his Craig Park home.
