Rosset makes late withdrawal

Marc Rosset 1992 Olympic Champion Marc Rosset, of Switzerland, has been forced to pull out of next week's Olympic tennis event citing exhaustion. The 29-year-old from Geneva said he was suffering from "extreme physical and mental tiredness''. As a result the Swiss pairing of Rosset and Roger Federer have been forced to pull out of the doubles.

Three other players have also withdrawn from the men's singles: Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador and Moroccan duo, Hicham Arazi and Younes El Aynaoui. Lapentti's injury means that he and brother Giovanni have withdrawn from the doubles. Replacements for all four singles players will be announced shortly.

In the women's singles, Romania's Catalina Cristea has withdrawn with a knee injury. As a result Cristea and Ruxandra Dragomir have pulled out of the doubles. Cristea's singles replacement will also be confirmed in due course. Patty Schnyder (SUI) and Anke Huber (GER), who withdrew from the women's singles on Tuesday, have been replaced by Miriam Oremans (NED) and Els Callens (BEL) respectively. Replacing Huber and Jana Kandarr in the women's doubles are the Indian pairing of Nirupama Vaidyanathan and Manisha Malhotra. A replacement for the Swiss pairing of Schnyder and Emmanuelle Gagliardi is to be confirmed shortly.
