Chinese women take synchro-goldThe Rediff TeamChina took the women's 10m platform synchronised gold, as expected, beating strong contenders Canada back to second place. The Chinese pair of Na Li and Xue Sang logged 345.12 points, as against the 312.03 logged by Canadians Emily Haymans and Anne Montminy of Canada. For the host country, Rebecca Gilmore and Loudy Tourky brought some cheer with a bronze, logging 301.50. The first event of Diving's Super Thursday went on predictable lines with the Chinese girls turning it on in a dazzling display of diving. What set them apart from the others was the synchronicity of their dives and their needle entries into the water, creating barely a ripple as they cut through in perfect time. Na Li already has an individual 10m platform silver to her name, and this same pair had won the event comfortably at the 2000 World Cup held in Sydney earlier this year. Later today, China should garner more golds with defending Olympic champion Fu Mingxia and Sydney World Cup champion Guo Jingjing heading the entries into the finals of the women's 3m springboard. The legendary Fu Mingxia will be seeking her fourth career Olympic gold medal, after winning the 10m platform in Barcelona in 1992, and sweeping both boards in Atlanta four years later.
