Chinese men take synchro gold

The Rediff Team

Xiao Hailiang and Xiong Ni continued the Chinese domination of the diving board, taking gold in the Men's Springboard 3m Synchronised final on Thursday morning.

The star Chinese pair, displaying acrobatic styles and perfect symmetry, logged 365.58 points over their five rounds, way ahead of silver medallists Alexander Dobroskok and Dmitri Saoutine of Russia with 329.97. Robert Newberry and Dean Pullar of Australia gave the host country its second bronze of the morning following a similar result by the women, taking third place with 322.86 points.

Synchronised diving makes its debut in the Olympics this year. And in what is billed as the greatest day on the diving boards, with glamourous events lined up, China took off in style winning both the women's and men's synchronised events that kicked off the morning's proceedings.

Russia took the first two titles earlier yesterday, but since then, it has been the Chinese dominating, and more golds expected for that country as the day progresses.
