Olympic champion, top seed both bow out
The big names were both beaten by lesser known players from Hong Kong. Agus Hariyanto overcame Ji 12-15 15-11 15-4 and Tam Kai Chuen swept aside Hashim, also ranked one in the world, 17-15 15-5. The winning duo continued a good run for Hong Kong who last week clinched promotion to division two of the Sudirman Cup mixed team event. Chuen said: "My dream was to reach the last 16. This is fantastic." Meanwhile, Europe's top hope Peter Gade of Denmark impressed with a 15-7 15-1 victory over Sweden's Martin Hagberg. The number two seed, who also did well in the Sudirman Cup, looked in good shape and could go a long way.
