Humpy regains lead

World junior champion Koneru Humpy emerged sole leader, with 2.5 points, after beating Drasko Boskovic of Yugoslavia in the third round of the Third Saturday Grandmasters chess tournament, in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.

Humpy played a good positional game in Reti opening and won comfortably.

On move 18, Humpy played c4-c5 and gained space control and moved her knight to c4 square to build up a strong position.

The Bank of Baroda-sponsored girl on the 24th move opened black's king side by playing g5 and placed her other knight on f5 square firmly to clinch the issue in 48 moves.

Two players, Michajlo Stojanovic of Yugoslavia and Martinez lopez of Spain, are in second position with 2 points.

Humpy needs six more points from eight more games to get her second men's GM norm which eluded her at Budapest, Hungary last week.

The tournament is a Category-7 GM tournament, where average Elo rating of the tournament is 2415 with 11 rounds. Humpy should get 8.5 points to get her second gm norm.

Twelve players from four countries -- India, Spain, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia -- are participating.
