Humpy wins Third Saturday eventWorld junior chess champion Koneru Humpy won the Third Saturday Grandmasters' tournament after settling for a quick draw in her last round match against Ognjan Todorov, in Belgrade, on Tuesday. The 14-year-old Andhra girl finished with 8.5 points and tied for first place with Mihajlo Stojanovic of Yugoslavia, but since she had beaten the Yugoslav in the fifth round, she won the title on the tie-break. Humpy opened with King's Indian attack in her last round match and settled for a draw in 11 moves. Humpy, who won her second men's GM norm after drawing with GM Goran Kosanovic of Yugoslavia in the ninth round, said: "Even though winning two tournaments in October is satisfying, winning the Third Saturday tournament is more gratifying than the First Saturday earlier in Budapest, because I remained unbeaten all through the tournament. Moreover, I achieved my second GM norm in Belgrade." Humpy had six victories and five draws in the tournament. The Third Saturday tournament is a Category-7 GM tournament, where average Elo rating of the tournament is 2415. Twelve players from four countries -- India, Spain, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia -- participated in it.
