Dance ballet with Balamurali comes to TristateThe Association for India's Development brings you a spectacular audiovisual experience, 'Annamayya', on Saturday, April 29, at the College of Mount Saint Joseph. The choreography of Dr Saraswati and the captivating music of Dr M Balamuralikrishna blend uniquely into a ballet portraying the life of legendary Indian composer Annamacharya. Dr Saraswati is a distinguished dancer who has choreographed 65 productions for stage and television. Dr Balamuralikrishna is widely recognised as a musical genius -- he has 400 compositions and 20 new ragas to his credit and has been conferred the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award. The ballet features a fusion of several styles of Indian classical dance known for their richness of expression, rhythm and costumes. Ten leading exponents of the Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohini Attam and Kathak dance forms are accompanied by a live orchestra of seven professional vocal and instrumental artistes, of both the Carnatic and Hindustani styles of Indian classical music. A fundraiser for AID's Cincinnati chapter, this is a great opportunity to experience Indian classical arts, enjoy delicious Indian food and contribute towards grassroots development projects. Tickets: $15 (students with ID), $25, $45, and $75 (including reception-dinner). Contact (513) 556-7418 or visit http://www.soa.uc.edu/org/aid for more information. |
