A senior US official on Wednesday indicated that terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden and some other senior Al Qaeda leaders have been detected in Afghanistan's mountainous Tora Bora region.
He said the anti-Taliban fighters are closing in on Laden who is now believed holed up in a small area with his top commanders.
ABC News reported on Tuesday that a 'daisy cutter' bomb dropped in Tora Bora over the weekend caused extensive damage and sparked a series of panicked radio and satellite calls among Al Qaeda members.
Those communications provided confirmation that the Saudi-born dissident and his entourage remain in the region, the network said.
Both White House and the Pentagon have refused to confirm or deny the report.
