The Afghan Islamic Press on Wednesday said the Taleban militia has withdrawn from the eastern stronghold of Jalalabad.
The report quoted a Taleban spokesman as saying that the city has been placed under the control of a local mujahideen commander Maulvi Younis Khalis.
The AIP also said the Taleban forces had quit the entire province of Nangahar, of which Jalalabad is the capital.
The withdrawal followed heavy overnight aerial attacks by US warplanes on Taliban targets in and around Jalalabad.
