Osama's former residence hit

Reports emerging out of Afghanistan indicate that the second wave of US missile attacks hit a residential area earlier used by Osama bin Laden.

Indications are that the target was selected and pinpointed based on intelligence available to the US forces.

A spokesman for the Taleban told the Afghan Islamic Press Agency that the US attacks had caused no significant damage. Taleban Ambassador to Pakistan Abdul Salam Zaeef said meanwhile that both both bin Laden and Taleban Supreme Commander Mullah Mohammad Omar were safe.

"By the grace of God, Mullah Omar and bin Laden are alive," Zaeef told reporters.

He did not elaborate, nor did he say where Omar and bin Laden were.

Taleban sources claimed to have shot down an aircraft over Afghan airspace. In Washington, the Pentagon has received no immediate reports any of its planes has been struck during the strikes, said US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

"We have no information that any American aircraft has been damaged or brought down," Rumsfeld said.
