Slain US soldiers will be dragged through streets: Al Qaeda

An Al Qaeda affiliated group quoting a top Al Qaeda commander has warned in a statement that slain US troops would suffer the same fate they did in Somalia, where bodies were dragged through the streets and then disfigured later.

The statement quoted Mohammed Atef, widely considered to be number 3 in the Al Qaeda network.

Yasser-al-Sirri, the spokesman for the Egypt based Islamic Observation Centre, said Atef made the brief statement in Afghanistan. He refused to say how it came into the hands of the Centre.

Al-Sirri is an Egyptian dissident believed to have contacts among suspected Muslim militants around the world.

The statement also said an Egyptian member of Al Qaeda, identified as Abu Baseer al-Masri, was killed by a bomb on Sunday near Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan.

It added that two of his comrades, a Chinese Muslim and an Yemeni, were injured.

No other details were given.
