The United States on Sunday said that it would try to capture Osama bin Laden alive, even as President George Bush asked the Central Intelligence Agency to liquidate the Saudi renegade and members of his Al Qaeda network.
"If it's a defensive situation, then bullets will fly. But if we can capture somebody, then we'll do that," chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff General Myers told ABC television.
Myers said he did not know for sure whether Laden could survive the war.
