The brutal murder of a 16-year-old boy in the city of Bradford in northern Britain has its inhabitants apprehensive about renewed violence.
The murder comes in the wake of a series of race riots in Bradford this summer.
The boy, who was of Pakistani origin, was shot following an incident of gang rivalry. The boy's killers are also suspected to be of Pakistani origin.
Eyewitness accounts said the boy, Yasser Hussain Nazir, seemed to know his killers. Nazir, who was driving a white Astra car, was attacked when he stopped at a petrol station on the outskirts of Bradford.
A green Honda with three masked men in it pulled up alongside, eyewitnesses told police. One of them went up to Nazir and shot him once in the head.
Nazir managed to drive away, but the gunman fired at him again.
Nazir drove for a short distance before dying of his wounds.
A police spokeswoman said the boy had been killed in a planned gang attack. The police said they are investigating gang rivalries in the city.
Two of Nazir's companions who were in the car with the boy are being interrogated, the police said.
The Pakistani community in Bradford is tense and fears more incidents of gang violence may follow.
