Speaking to a news agency, United States Deputy Secretary of Defence Paul Wolfowitz on Wednesday said American forces had begun moving in support of America's campaign against terrorism.
"There are movements and we will see more movements," he said.
However, he refused to reveal details of the troop movement and said, "I hope everyone, including the American people, understand why we do not want to reveal any details."
Meanwhile, another agency report quoting US defence department sources said combat aircraft were being moved to bases in the Gulf area.
The report said that teams of air force air controllers would also be leaving shortly.
The deployment has been dubbed Operation Infinite Justice, according to the report.
The report quoting an unnamed defence official said F-16s, F-15s and possibly B-1 bombers would be moved to air bases in the Gulf.
