West Indies captain Brian Lara will bid farewell to his glorious ODI career after the last World Cup Super Eights match against England on April 21.
"I honestly feel that my game is over and we should give it to one of the younger players. It's really tough playing one-day internationals out there. After the World Cup the next one-day tournament for the West Indies is in June in England and I'd love to sit back and watch and see the team do well," the 37-year-old bstaman said after the West Indies lost to South Africa on Tuesday.
The batting legend played 297 ODIs, scoring 10,354 runs at 40.60, including 19 hundreds and 63 half-centuries. He was under fire after the team's poor showing in the Super Eights, with former greats Michael Holding, Colin Croft and Joel Garner demanding his sacking.
And even though the legendary Gary Sobers and batting great Everton Weeks threw their weight behind him, he decided it is time to go.
