Kumble delighted with comeback spell

Champion leg-spinner Anil Kumble returned to action in style, claiming two wickets in India's tour opening match against Nicky Oppenheimer XI in Randjesfontein, Johannesburg, on Monday and was understandably delighted with his performance.

"I felt good with my rhythm," said Kumble after his spell of two for 47 from his ten overs.

Indeed, Kumble, who has 274 Test wickets to his credit, was extremely accurate in his first eight overs which cost him just 27 runs. His last two overs did go for a few still was the only Indian bowler to pick up a wicket in the match as the home side piled up 244 for three declared in 52 overs.

"I didn't try to do too many things," said Kumble. "I just wanted to ease into my bowling action."

Kumble, who last played for India in Sharjah on October 19 last year, said he has been patient with his return to international cricket.

"Before coming on this tour, I turned out in four club matches, a Karnataka Diamond Jubiliee match and two in the Buchi Babu tournament," said Kumble.

Kumble, who moved in nicely and bowled with his trademark accuracy, said he wasn't nervous with his comeback and did not try to push too many deliveries.

"I felt fine with my shoulder after my bowling spells," he said.

He said he is willing to get into whatever role his captain wants of him.

"I am on tour (and available) now," he added.
