Letter of the Day
October 22, 2001
Wanted:
An All rounder for the Indian team.
We choose to ignore the best we have, viz. Robin Singh. Instead, we blood callow youngsters like Reetinder Singh Sodhi. Sodhi is, no doubt, a sensational fielder, but we want him to bat & bowl as well.
Yuvraj was picked as a batsman, who could bowl as well, but he now is a bowler, who contributes 15 odd runs with the bat. Sehwag doesn't know which spot he is going to bat next, so confused is he.
I say, bring back Kapil. The old lion has still got some fire in his belly. The selection policy is ostensibly preparing for the next world cup. This way, we'll end up losing these matches and the world cup as well.
What we need is a mixture of experience and youth. Too many kids doesn't make sense. Don't make the Indian cap cheap. Let them earn it before they wear it.
