The 64 year old, considered by some as the world's greatest theoretical physicist after Isaac Newton, has long achieved status as a celebrity whose fame transcends the boundaries of mere science.
Despite his severe disability brought on by motor neuron disease, he continues to travel the world, appearing at all kinds of events, dealing with the press and stopping every other year or so to publish a new book.
And this, dear graduates, is where you come in.
A posting on the University of Cambridge web site says Professor Hawking is looking for a student to work for him for a year or two.
The chosen candidate could earn up to £23,500 (approximately Rs 10,84,150). Better still, he or she will get a chance to accompany Professor Hawking on his many travels abroad.
Those considering applying for the post will have to help Hawking with his disability, as he uses a wheelchair and communicates with the help of a computer.
The advertisement adds that the job demands 'flexibility, stamina and a confident and caring personality, together with a valid driving licence.'
So if you want to apply, hurry.
Applications close next Friday, September 22, 2006. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on October 18.
