Militants late Friday night gunned down an official of the Special Operations Group in Srigufwara in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.

Police sources told rediff.com that the militants attacked the vehicle of Inspector Bashir Ahmad Malik, in charge of SOG camp at Srigufwara.

"They fired on the car in which Malik was travelling. He died on the spot," said a police officer in Anantnag.

Senior police officers had rushed to Srigufwara, police said, adding no group had admitted responsibility.
