Security forces on Saturday arrested six Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists who had carried out several attacks in the city last year, Border Security Force Deputy Inspector General J P Sinha said.

The six terrorists formed an active Hizbul module involved in a series of pistol shootings, improvised explosive device blasts and grenade attacks in the civil line area of Srinagar and on the outskirts of the city last year, Sinha said.

They were responsible for the recent attacks on the Kothibagh police station, on a Central Reserve Police Force post at Noorbagh, on a BSF vehicle at Shunglipora, on a flying squad vehicle of the police and several attacks in Jehangir Chowk and Regal Chowk area of the city, he said.

The chief motivator of the module Bashir Ahmad Qadri was among those arrested. "Qadri was preparing the youth for 'jihad' in the name of religious preaching," Sinha said.

One AK assault rifle and its magazine, 25 live rounds, two wireless sets, four shells, 10 kilos of RDX, three hand grenades and a time bomb device were recovered from the possession of the terrorists, he added.
