In a touching gesture, a school boy has contributed Rs 500, saved from his pocket money, towards relief of people affected by Sunday's deadly tsunami.

The seventh standard student of a Chennai school sent a demand draft for Rs 500 to Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, a Raj Bhavan release said on Saturday.

"This has been a very touching moment for the governor and he has sent a letter to the boy in appreciation of his service and sacrifice," the release said.

Employees of the Madras University also donated Rs 10,000 towards the Chief Minister's Public Relief fund, the release added.
