Seven killed as rains lash Andhra Pradesh

Seven persons were killed in various rain-related incidents in Andhra Pradesh with many rivulets overflowing after incessant rains in the state, officials said on Tuesday.
  
While four persons died in East Godavari district, two persons were killed in Adilabad and one in Khammam district,
state revenue secretary K Ratnaprabha told reporters .
  
The kin of the deceased would be paid an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh by the district collectors, she said.
  
The government has set up relief camps and vacated residents of low-lying areas, she said.
  
Sirpur in Adilabad district received 21 cm of rainfall, while Tuni (East Godavari dist) and Paderu (Visakhapatnam dist) recorded a rainfall of 13 cm.
  
Other places where heavy rainfall was recorded were Tiruvuru (Krishna dist) 12 cm, Amalapuram (East Godavari
dist) and Tanuku (West Godavari dist) 11 cm each, Met officials said.
  
Several rivulets in Khammam district including Munneru, Paleru and Kattaleru were overflowing due to heavy
rains in the past two days. Several low-lying areas were inundated.
 
 The flood water was reaching Krishna river and the water level at Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada was steadily
rising, officials said.
  
Two villages in Adilabad were reeling under water and efforts were on to rescue the residents, the officials said.
  
The Met department has forecast moderate to heavy rain at many places in the state till August seven.
