The Congress high command held long discussions with former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and state congress chief Saifuddin Soz, but no decision was taken during the meeting whether to support the National Conference to form a new government.

"The meeting was headed by Congress president Sonia Gandhi. A core group meeting  will be held on Tuesday evening which will also be attended by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and other important leaders of the party," Prithviraj Chauhan, general secretary in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir told rediff.com.

Party spokesperson Manish Tewari said the Congress was in no hurry to take a decision. He said the Congress would closely examine its poll manifesto before extending support to any party.

"The NC emphasized on greater autonomy. What do they mean by greater autonomy," he asked.

"Likewise, other parties too will have to explain their stand on the issues they have taken up. This was one of the most peaceful elections in Jammu and Kashmir," he added.
