Video: How to make Bhel Puri

If there is a dish that represents Mumbai it is Bhel Puri. Quite like the city where it was born, it is a mishmash of all kinds of ingredients that mix magically to create a distinct taste.

Chef Hiralal of Mumbai's Khau Galli Restaurant shows us how you can prepare Bhel Puri at home.

Preparation time: About 3 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Puffed rice (kurmura)
  • Potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • Onion, chopped
  • Tomato, chopped
  • Puris
  • Green mint chutney
  • Tamarind and dates chutney
  • Chaat masala
  • Garlic paste
  • Lemon juice
  • Sev
  • Chopped coriander
  • Raw mangoes, chopped
  • Fried chana dal

Preparation:

  • In a bowl, mix puffed rice, potatoes, onion, tomatoes, crushed puris, green mint chutney, tamarind and dates chutney, chat masala, garlic paste and lemon juice and mix well.
  • Garnish with chopped raw mangoes, coriander and sev. Serve.
