Karim’s, one of the more popular eateries of this neighbourhood has been cooking up food for iftaar since 1915. Haji Karimuddin, a chef in the royal kitchens of the emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, became unemployed when Mughal rule ended after the Mutiny. He opened Karim’s, ‘the commoners’ royal kitchen’
 
Today Karim’s is run by Alimuddin Saheb and his son Rizuddin (above). The restaurant is legendary for its tandoori murg burra, mutton burra, chicken mughlai, chicken stew, Nargasi kofta, biryani . And its nahari, a spicy hot, watery stew made from trotters.
