The Bar Mitzvah was held on the Saturday before Christmas at the city’s most well-known synagogue, the Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue at Forbes Street. This 112-year-old synagogue -- with its high, vaulted ceilings, intricately carved rafters, stained glass windows and polished fittings -- was built by the Sassoon family.
When the excitement of Hanukkah, a Bar Mitzvah and a season of visitors is over Keneseth Eliyahoo will be returned to the stewardship of its two Maharashtrian Hindu caretakers.
