We invited Get Ahead readers to share their summer recipes with us -- light, easy to digest preparations that have a cooling effect in the sweltering heat. As part of an ongoing series, we present two cool summer drinks from readers.
First up is a recipe for what Shilpa Acharya calls the Kharbooja Special:
Cuisine: South Indian
Type: Vegetarian
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 kharbooja (honeydew melon)
- 1/4-1/2 cup milk (boiled and cooled)
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 2 tbsps honey
- Sugar to taste
- A few raisins
- A few chopped cashews
- A few chopped almonds (optional)
Preparation:
- Cut the kharbooja and remove the seeds. Mash the pulp by hand and place in a bowl.
- Add the milk, ghee and honey and mix well. Now add raisins, cashews and almonds. Add sugar according to taste. It is really cool and healthy to have.
And next we have Sakshi Aggarwal's Papaya Shake preparation:
Cuisine: South Indian
Type: Rajasthani
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup papaya
- A few mint leaves
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 lemon
- 2 tsps honey
Preparation:
- Mix all the ingredients and blend properly.
- Refrigerate for some time. Serve cool.
