The burqa goes high fashion

The young lady in the picture is Zainab Ashraf Shaikh, a 22-year-old fashion student who designed this burqa for herself.

"I don't wear dark burqas. Lavender was a good colour to go with. The fabric is suede. But because it is very thin, it isn't such a bad bet in the Mumbai heat. I designed this myself and got my tailor to put it together for me. It cost me about Rs 6,000."

Thick-framed glasses are back with a vengeance

You might've seen your grandpa wearing those thick-rimmed glasses and pouring over the newspaper each morning.

Guess what, if you can lay your hands on those frames again, believe us you'd have probably hit a goldmine. Everyone worth their salt -- right from Abhishek Bachchan upwards -- has been sporting it and how!

Taking cue, perhaps from the latest fashion brigade, 22-year-old Pratik Ghadashi decided to sport a pair himself. He bought it off the road in Mumbai's Bandra district for Rs 500 but spent Rs 2000 on the lenses! Wonder what ol' gramps would've to say about that!

Back to school

Samriddhi Kukreja lives in Delhi and loved her socks even when she was at school. The 18-year-old sure caught our eye this morning thanks to her bright knee-length socks. The socks she tells us are 'some local brand' but the neck-piece is by her brother Naresh, the fellow who likes to wear asymmetrical glasses.

The dress, Samriddhi says is short and the socks were a fashionable way to cover her legs over leggings, which can be tad boring. We agree! Samriddhi is also a VJ with Channel V

Off the rasta

Abhishek Gupta picked up this Bob Marley bag off the streets, well almost off the streets in Bandra for Rs 500. Funnily though, the designer has never really listened to Marley but loved this bag 'more for the belt than the picture'!

The Simpsons on a tee!

Sure we all love Homer and his family. But this guy definitely loves The Simpsons more than all of us put together here at the Lakme Fashion Week.

A free hair makeover for the girls!

If there's advantage the girls here have over the boys is that they get a free hair makeover at the Lakme Studio! All you have to do is walk in and walk out with a brand new hairstyle!

Birthday girl

It wasnt so much for her glasses that we noticed this young fashion week enthusiast as much for the baloons she was carrying around.

Apparently it was her birthday on Day 2 of the Lakme Fashion Week and someone thought giving her balloons was the best gift she could get!

Hats off!

Red and black was how Narendra Kumar was feeling and his hat surely reflected his mood.
