Campaign against caste: 'My caste is 'Indian''

On May 11 we launched our campaign against caste in census 2011 and responses from readers have been pouring in. While some merely clicked the 'I am against the caste census' button, others were more vocal. We present what our readers had to say:

But census is done on head count wherein caste has no place in the census count. Therefore it is like devleopment seen as logically but physically there if no development felt. Hence caste should be eliminated from the society for better development and human being are to be treated as human being only, then the true development can be seen and felt. Initially the reservation was provided in the Constitution for certain period of time their upliftment in the socieity. But out leaders from time to time have extended the reservation as uncureable disease in the mind set of the people and made them addict to this disease. Whether they are well off or not in the society they should get researvation. Hence the constitution has to be amended and the reservation has to be discontinued forthwith for better development of the society and country at large. |

You cannot manage what you cannot measure and do not know. The better data you have about castes, the better can be the nations strategy to eradicate it. Therefore it is important to understand these numbers in the census. It provides tremendous opportunities to identify the true minorities, understand income disparities, do targetted programs to improve well being, as people from the smael cast do tend to stick togather when it comes to these programs (I am talking non-metro here obviously). |

I feel, if person is sick then give him proper treatment and medical support in spite of providing cruches for walking forcefully. After 1931 no caste census was done till date, we are enjoying our democracy for more that 6 decades, but we never examine the root cause for non development of poor and under privilege people of our society. Creating policy is not the solution, when we don't have actual data base for our own country man. I feel after caste census, it will be easy for government to focus on poorest of poor people and community on whom till date we don't even bother to know or collect the ground reality data. We have people strength of more than 100 crores and diver's society belongs to 100-1000 caste. So in such scenario, it will be easier for government to focus on individual community development and work at grass root level, as per caste census data base, because with small and strong step only we can achieve the desired result. So I feel that till now government has placed lot of policy, but right implementation was missing. So with this caste census, we will get the real picture for rolling the real worthy policy for 2020 develop India. |
