Meet Kavita Kharayat who stopped the show for Asmita Marwah on Day One of the Lakme Fashion Week

Kavita Kharayat made more than a few men skip a heartbeat when she stopped the show for Asmita Marwah on Day One at the Lakme Fashion Week. The sexy model wore a simple white cotton sari with a saffron border and rudraksha necklaces that only complemented the Gayatri mantra tattoo on her right arm.

We caught up with this sexy model who as it happens also is a marathoner and an amateur gymnast!

What's your personal sense of style like?

It depends on my mood actually. I'm not always the jeans and t-shirt kinds. Some days I like wearing a pair of shorts and a ganjee or a skirt or something else altogether. I don't restrict myself to a particular outfit.

Tell us something about your tattoo.

Well it's the Gayatri mantra and an om and a swastika too. I like meditating a lot and chanting omkara because I find it very de-stressing. I'm also a lot into yoga because I feel it is important to be able to unwind at the end of each day.

You were wearing a sari on the ramp. Do you wear saris otherwise too?

Oh yes! I have a huge collection of saris back at home. I love the idea of draping a sari and it looks so elegant.

'Power yoga keeps me in shape'

How do you stay fit?

The two things that keep me in shape are power yoga and running a lot. I run for about an hour and a half every day. In fact I have run two marathons so far and will start training for the coming 2011 marathon soon.

I've recently started learning gymnastics too so that is another way that I stay in shape. But most of all I find that maintaining a balanced diet is most effective in keeping those pounds away.

So what is your diet like?

I don't diet per se. Instead I ensure I eat healthy and at regular intervals. Breakfast can range from cornflakes to idli and poha. For lunch I ensure I have a lot of carbs so they are burned during the course of the day.

Dinner of course is light and includes dals and green vegetables.

'To make it in modelling, you must be patient'

What would you suggest one do to get flat abs like yours?

(Laughs) You need to work out. But most importantly you need to have your dinner early simply because it helps digestion.

How do you get those sexy toned legs?

I do lunges, squats and sumo squats and practice yoga as regularly as possible. Even when I do some weight training I don't use a lot of heavy weights. Yoga is a great way to stay fit also because it uses your own body weight.

Your advice to aspiring models?

Be ready for hectic shifts, don't hesitate to take on something new, be patient because work won't come along very quickly, learn to walk if you want to be a ramp model and most importantly eat right!
