There are two communities of Jews in Bombay – the Baghdadi Jews and the Bene Israel Jews. The arrival of the Bene Israel Jews in India is shrouded in mystery.
As the story goes they were shipwrecked off the Konkan coast and settled in the Kolabah region of Maharashtra. They claim to have descended from Jews who left Galilee as early as 2 BC.
