The Baghdadi Jews, the other community of Bombay Jews, arrived in the city in the 1790s from Iraq, Syria and Iran, fleeing persecution. They were responsible for bringing the Bene Israelis out of their isolation and providing fresh and new Jewish influences to the community.

The Baghdadi Jews, unlike the Bene Israel Jews and the Jews of Cochin, did not mix much with the local populace and a majority of them migrated abroad post-Independence. In appearance they resemble the Middle-Eastern people. Today there are hardly 200 Baghdadi Jews left in Bombay.
