Mallika Sherawat's white ghagra choli

While Ms Sherawat is busy creating a buzz at Cannes this year kissing live snakes to promote her new movie Hissss, who can forget her bold ensemble from when she showed up at the film festival back in 2005? It set tongues wagging everywhere, especially since she dared to bare more than most Hollywood actresses on the red carpet!

Another regular at Cannes, Ash received major flack for this Neeta Lulla number in her first year as jury member back in 2003. The fusion outfit crossed a corset with a traditional ghagra and ever since being the subject of a flurry of fashion analyses, she has stuck to Armani and Elie Saab evening gowns!

Bet you've seen this pic a million times! While Bollywood babes like Minissha Lamba, Lara Dutta and Bipasha Basu have all donned bikinis, it was Bebo who first flaunted her size-zero bod in this sparkling blue monokini in Tashan. And not surprisingly, it's become one of the most iconic B-Town swimsuits of all time.

Yup, there's nothing quite like being bold in gold, is there? Actress Kangana Ranaut knows that, which is why she decided to show up at the IIFAs in 2007 wearing a cut-down-to-there satin gown.

Aditi Govitrikar in the Google sari

Sari couturier Puneet Nanda of Satya Paul took popular culture's influence on desiging to a whole new level in 2008, with his 'Google' sari, which was modelled on the ramp by Aditi Govitrikar. This is one drape nobody will be forgetting anytime soon!

Mandira Bedi's noodle straps

While we are on the subject of saris, TV personality Mandira Bedi certainly deserves a mention -- not just for any one ensemble in particular, but for a wardrobe full of noodle strap cholis. A chapter in modern Indian history we're not likely to forget anytime soon!

Bipasha's cut-away red dress

The Bong bombshell made waves at the IIFA 2007 in this red navel-bearing number with asymmetrical hemline. Love it or hate it, this has certainly been one of the more eyebrow-raising red carpet specials in recent years!

This veteran actress made history in the movie Umrao Jaan in her role as an aristocrat's courtesan. And the period constumes she donned for the part were nothing short of breathtaking -- Rekha will always be remembered in this avatar.

Vidya Balan's sheer black leggings

And finally, we have this -- err -- outfit worn by Vidya Balan on the sets of her movie Kismat Konnection. Known for her ethnic preferences, Vidya sought to cross over to a more Western look, only to be shot down by fashionistas everywhere. She has thankfully given up on similar faux pas, but this was certainly one of those ensembles that will be talked about for a long time to come!
