As strains of Edith Piaf's French cabaret numbers played in the background and fairy lights twinkled in pretty rows above the runway, Sabyasachi brought Day One of Lakme Fashion Week to a close with his resortwear collection.

In a departure from his trademark ethnicwear, the designer put out a decidedly breezy line, with hints of bling and plenty of boho touches -- shiny bikini tops, translucent fabrics and retro glares dominated the runway.

Starting the show is this bold shocker (well, bold for Sabya anyway!) -- a transparent skirt and bolero, with threadwork placed strategically on top and worn over boy-shorts below.

Next we have this autumn printed dress with plunging neckline and teamed with a funky jacket.

Lisa Haydon strikes a pose in a block-printed maxi skirt and tie-up vest.

Straight-laced as ever, this ankle-length casual is set off by a bib-style embellishment that hangs low at the waist.

Elephant pants make a comeback, alongside a matching cross-over top -- this is as hippie as it gets!

A sequinned bikini peeks through an otherwise staid white shirt and midi skirt.

Diandra Soares proves that skinshow isn't always a must in these wide-legs and beautifully embroidered blouse.
The sheer, lacey effect of this bodice, teamed with its rich green hue is enough to have anyone sit up and take notice!
The designer takes on a rich red with plenty of shimmer, toning it down with a deep-green over-wrap.

Churidaar pants jazz up this unique kurta, with a bolero-style pattern and an empire waistline. And the checkered scarf at the neck is very French!

First it was the checkered effect, now it's stripes -- the printed sleeves and flap jacket are in stark contrast.

Heavy texture and embroidery move into a simple knee-length skirt and then a floral print.

Carol Gracias cops an attitude in a skirt with homely cut but sparkling embroidery, worn over kitshy pants. And don't miss those chunky bangles!
Green and red go electric on this ankle-length ensemble -- who'd have guessed we'd see so much bling?
Gracious as ever, Sabya led out a member of his design team at the end of the showing and bowed to thunderous applause.
