For the umpteenth time guys ...it's Linux ....AMEN !!
Ever tried the Microsoft Customer Support? It's a joke. Compare that to the Linux mailing list. As for Unix correct me ...but then isn't Linux another flavour of Unix. So, we are talking the same philosophy. So next time you take a stroll down the road ..remember to scream " I DON"T DO WINDOWS". For further commitment read about the Linus Trovalds vs Andrew Tannenbaum debate.

Linux,
Linux,
Linux,
All the votes go to linux.. Forget ISP's, Linux is here to be on Desktops too.. If you haven't got it on your PC, You are living in the age of dinosaurs.
Give it a try and take a hard look, You might be seeing "THE" OS of tomorrow. Rather, it has already arrived.

I would like to bet on a Unix machine, preferably a Linux platform. Windows NT is no way capable of handling a volume of traffic suitable for an ISP. Least of the situations, it was a big failure to be used even as a mailhost in our organization.

I would recommend Linux as the first choice because it is fast and efficient and free. It runs hundred times better than Windows NT although unlike NT or Unix no really big name except RedHat is backing it.

Linus is God, Linux is God's creation!!! Linux is the emerging OS of times and will lead the way into the new milleinium. With its UNIX like features and NT machine/Win Networked machine support, Linux with Samba will make a mark in networking and future! Watch it Bill, Linux is here

My bet would be anything but Win NT. When it comes to managing large amounts of critical information, Windows platform should be out of question. Linux or Unix are the ones to look out for. I feel that Windows doesn't have the stability to stay in the market. When it comes to Unix versus Linux, I would definitely prefer Linux as it has all that any other Unix has to offer and at a remarkably low cost. Plus, we can all contribute to make and build LINUX. This is a big plus. When it comes to a point where we have to choose Unix, there can be an issue of monopoly. However, since Linux is developed and used by the community, it makes more sense to go for it. So, that's it, LINUX is my choice and so should be yours.
Think about it.

I think in 3 to 4 years time it will be Linux on the worldwide scene. The Internet wars are being fought so keenly on every front now a days, that Linux with its 'best of both the worlds' approach will emerge as the winner..and on top of everything it comes free.

I have been using all the above mentioned operating system and UNIX beats all of them hands down epecially the Solaris version of it is like a fantastic thing with all goodies built. It does not crash when I am doing my simulations, like Windows NT does. UNIX takes the cake!!!

Hey! Linux Vs Windoze is understood. Unix vs Windoze is also O.K! But whats Linux vs Unix? if u want it that way- make it Linux vs Unix vs FreeBSD vs Solaris vs etc!
Make it simple! (stupid crashdowns) Windows vs Unix & Clones! But any way to look at it- Linux Rules! Throw a Linux into a ol' 486 box lying around and it will put your Pentium II 400 Mhz running Windows NT 4 to shame! And don't forget enlightenment! the best X-Windows Manager for Linux and other Unix clones!

Linux ... All the way. Just give me one good reason that Windows can do better, including GUI (You can manage your Internet from a web browser on Linux, not to mention the system itself)

My Vote is for Linux/Unix
NT basically evolved from DOS , so it is not the OS for client/server applications .. it is the operating system for documentation !! For NT it will take a long time to attain the level of Linux/Unix, By that time Linux/Unix will get all the documentation features of NT.
So the ultimate winner will be Linux/Unix !!

I want freedom from crashes and want SUPPORT. I want to use an OS from an organisation which is really concerned about the user, support and quality than market supremacy. I do not want to apply service packs day in and day out!
Who can deliver these? A Greedy OS company or a democratic Free Software movement? Whenever I send a distress mail on the net, I got response in minutes from the Linux Community. Try any MS distributor in India, you will not even receive the Service packs and Patches. Atleast in India, it is unwise to go with MS.
Only MCSEs and those dummy diploma holders from Huge Private Training shops vote for NT. No Real IT professional worth his brain votes for NT!

For India, the choice should be obvious: The computing platforms dependant on western intellectual property control should be seen not only as bad for business, but a potential threat to the national economy and security. The Linux vs UNIX vs Windows NT is only part of the question as the UNIX varients always win on technical merits. When international economic politics comes into play, Sun, and other U.S. based UNIX players also fall out.
What are you left with? Linux, FreeBSD, and other Free Software and Open Source solutions. Of these, Linux has the better licence as it cannot be subverted by Intellectual Property control (Derivatives of BSD do not have to be kept Open Source, while derivatives of Linux must be kept Free Software).
I run my entire Internet business on Free Software (Currently the OS of choice is Linux) and recommend very strongly for India's ISPs to do the same!
